What I Didn't Do At Christmas
I did not spend the day in the company of in-laws, who would rather I wasn't there. No more sneaking out for a walk after dinner, to avoid the sour, over-fed faces and criticisms manquerading as conversation. I did not have to ignore my mother's resntment that she was only aallowed to see her precious granddaughter on boxing day.
Other people's expectations and demands, all done away with by moving as far as possible. Now most of them have gone away themselves. Long gone, and long dead. I will never have to endure another "festive season" of their dissapointment and ridicule. Not even if I wanted to.
